A moment in pictures: First School Shoes

Yes, I'm one of THOSE mothers.  The mothers who have their cameras at probably inappropriate and inconvenient times.  The type that you roll your eyes at.

Last week when I took Eloise to buy her first school shoes we had all kinds of trouble finding the right width.  We ended up at Shoes and Sox and it was mayhem.  Not helped by a woman with a 14 year old and 16 year old (I'm guessing) who were ushered onto the platform that little kids go on to be fitted for their school shoes.  I mean honestly they were as tall as me!  The mother was sitting their proudly beaming at her 'babies'.  I was just gobsmacked - denial perhaps?  There was as a result little room left for the kids who were actually being fitted (they were waiting) and no-one asked them to get down!

Strange.

Anyways, Eloise was fitted, and we found her school shoes - she loves them and proceeded to wear them all afternoon around the shopping centre with no dramas - no blisters - just elation and joy from the little girl who can't wait to go to school.  Bless.

She looks so happy. You were a nightmare to take show shopping even at five. You had your mind set on a pair of shoes (usually plastic) and it was a battle just to get you into the imported Startrights you ended up wearing. They do remind me though of the Mary Janes you wore in High School, don't you think? xxx
