3. Go to a friends' house with airconditioning
4. Go for a drive in our car which does have airconditioning.
So he suggested number 4. He didn't mind driving and I packed us up some lunchboxes and drinks and we head off - 'on the road to no-where'. We headed onto the freeway and the sign for the Blue Mountains came into view. 'What about the Three Sisters?' hubby suggested. It seemed like the perfect suggestion - picturesque drive, three sisters in the back seat...'great idea!'
It seemed we were not the only one with this great idea - it's a popular spot and it was a public holiday. Hmmm but we forgot that once we headed down the road (I love watching hubby walk our kids!) and all we could think about was the HEAT. We had swapped our coastal location with an onshore breeze for the inland mountains. D'oh!
We were in pretty good spirits though - probably because we managed to find a park not too far away (note to all, take change because all the parking for streets away is metered - even in the residential streets!).
And here they are!
I didn't realise the legend of the Three Sisters was so sad!
The Aboriginal dream-time legend has it that three sisters, 'Meehni', 'Wimlah' and Gunnedoo' lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe.
These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry.
The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle.
As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe took it upon himself to turn the three sisters into stone to protect them from any harm. While he had intended to reverse the spell when the battle was over, the witchdoctor himself was killed. As only he could reverse the spell to return the ladies to their former beauty, the sisters remain in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come.

Cost: Free - parking is $3.80 for 45 minutes
Find it: Echo Point - just near Katoomba
Bring: Camera, sunscreen if it's hot and water too!
Accommodation: Lots of guest houses and hotels, plus self contained accommodation nearby
Food: Loads - cafes, restaurants - if you have time check out the Hydro Majestic (we'll do that next time I think - it's scheduled to re-open Jan 2012!)

I love the blue mountains. My grandma lives there and we haven't been there in years. Last time we went we saw the three sisters and went on the train that goes up the side of the mountain. That was pretty cool!
What a great day out! Being one of three sisters I love The Three Sisters. Sad story, it's true. But look at them all there, together...
Note to self look with my eyes, there was a rather empty extremely shadey carpark on the right side of the road. We didn't see this driving in due to a large number of coaches parked in the street. However on foot it was plainly visible.
Never mind judging from the amount of of empty spaces I am guessing not many visiters saw it either.
