Flying Fox Park Adventures...

I've always heard the locals rave about the Flying Fox Park and Cafe at Bayview about 10 minutes drive from our house... so when we were looking for something new to do with the kids and enjoy the good weather we decided to give it a go. I'm so glad we did! It's FANTASTIC and would recommend it to anyone who even wanted a day-trip from anywhere in Sydney.

It's a fully fenced park with playground areas split into sub-2's 2-5's, 5+ and a real flying fox which is about 50m long. All areas except the centrepiece 'spider web' is covered by shade sails.

Adjoining the park is a cafe where you can get takeaway to go to nearby picnic tables inside the fenced area of park, and there's also a seating area for those with dogs - because the dog excercise area and beach area of pittwater is only about 3 minutes walk, and another 3 mins walk beyond that is bayview beach and futher picnic areas which is where we take our kids to swim... it's lovely and warm water and shallow so no worrying about them falling off a deep shelf!
On the other side of the fenced park, there's also umbrella-shaded picnic tables - perfect for that family BBQ/birthday celebration - but I think you'd have to get in early to secure your place, the picnic tables are right on a huge stretch of grass, perfect for bikes and an impromptu game of backyard cricket I reckon!
I love discovering these gems of places - even better when they are on your back doorstep!

On we hop and off we go!

We're off! Daddy jogging to keep up!

And back to the beginning!

Just wanted to pop back in here and mention that we finally made it to the park! We went with my friend and her hubby and their two kids as well. All 4 kids had a blast for a good 4 hours!

The cafe had some lovely restaurant quality meals on the menu as well, which was a nice surprise for a park. Will have to check out the bayview beach area next time we are up there.

Any more Northern Beaches hot spots you'd like to share? My friend has just moved to the Northern Beaches and we'll be up there a lot, visiting.

Neesh - two other places I can think of at the top of my head are Clontarf Reserve -

Family friendly swimming, (Can't remember if it's fenced?) and shaded park.. kiosk and bbq's etc. We actually had our wedding reception at Clonny's restaurant which is there too.

Another park (we were there today actually)
I don't know the name of it, but it's accross the oval that's opposite the corner of Campbell Parade and Quirk Road, is a fabulous park - about 4 of 5 separated gazebos with BBQ's and loads of equipment. Really easy. Totally fenced witn an internal bike track, and a larger one outside for bigger kids..
