With still the first and second series of Underbelly fresh in my mind I started doing a kind of mental family tree tragedy of the Kane and Moran families.
Jason Moran married Trish Kane and united two families of the underworld scene. Trish, the daughter of infamous painter and dockers identity Les Kane - her Dad Les was murdered in the family home in 1978, and then four years later his brother Brian was shot dead in a pub. Trish's sister is now charged with accessory after the fact of murdering her dead husbands' uncle, Des Moran today.
Jason's Mum, Judy who was arrested today in relation to her brother-in-law Des Moran's murder is surrounded by tragedy. Her first husband, Leslie Cole (Mark Morans' biological father) was murdered in Sydney in 1982.
Her second husband and father of Jason, Lewis, was murdered in 2004, the year after their son Jason, and her first son Mark in 2000.
The only people still standing in these families are seemingly the women (although I'm not privvy to the whole family tree) - I hope Jason and Trish's kids fare better futures with their Dad, both grandfathers, uncle and two great uncles murdered... it's terribly sad.

Yes, Les Kane was married in Underbelly2 to Judi Kane portrayed by Kate Ritchie. :)
Can't say I feel too sorry for them. I mean, it's sad that life has been lost, that is always a tragedy, but at the same time that's the life they chose to lead. They didn't have to go down the path of underworld crime, and they'd have expect stuff like that to happen because of it. It's just part of their life.
I agree with Bethwyn. These women chose to associate with these men(well the ones who married them anyway, you don't have much choice if it's your father or brother!). You would think if you had a father invloved in crime who was murdered you would do whatever you could to NOT marry someone involved with the same kinds of things/people! The only people I feel sorry for are the kids, and I hope they learn from their parents mistakes and have nothing to do with their crime families when they are older and marry decent people. These women, while they may not know the details, knew their husbands were criminals and were doing the wrong things. I don't accept that they are innocent victims. It's easier to turn a blind eye than accept the truth of what's going on around you and take a stand against it.
