I don't know if anyone with 3 and 5 year olds and beyond are experiencing this but for those who are - my condolences and sympathies!
It's driving me NUTS at the moment.
For every moment of consideration, affection and love between my girls at the moment (and there is plenty - bless!) there is also the ugly competitiveness. This has only really reared its' head in a big way in the past couple of weeks.
'I've got one of these and you don't'
'My orange (segment) is bigger than yours'
'Me and X have *insert colour shirt/socks/anything* and you don't'
I try very hard to run a fair environment. I just have to be consistent. That is my mantra 'this soon will pass'. Maybe it won't.
I worry that my children as they grow up may feel one of them is loved more than the other. I must really work on that NOT happening. I think I need to spend more one-on-one time with each of them, something that is lacking at present.
It will need to be on the weekend.
I will plan dates/picnics/shopping trips I think?
Swimming lessons ?

I hear you! It's incredibly tiresome.
We try and have a bit of one-on-one time with ours, but we don't write it down or measure it. Just little things like going to the shop on the weekend with only one to get milk, or taking two to a party and leaving one behind to have one-on-one time with Daddy. Going to the hardware store alone with Daddy, playing a game while the other two go to bed a little early etc etc. It tends to only be on weekends or of an evening though.
I have three so I try and divide up EVERYTHING into three equal portions or treats or whatever, but you know, life just isn't that simple or clear cut!!
I guess that is just what kids, siblings in particular, will do and our job as parents is to have to put up with it for the next fifteen years :)
Ear plugs!
my kids are 11, 10 and 7 and its still "my xxx is better than yours" or "he got more than me" etc. I don't think it ever stops. It just depends on what mood i'm in as to how it ends up!
Mum's line when I was a kid was always 'It all balances/works out in the end'. It drove me nuts at the time, but she was right, and none of us felt left out or that there was a favourite.
