Last week I finally travelled back with my family in tow, it's wonderful to be reunited and showing them where I've been living, doing our numerous skype calls, giving them an overseas experience and of course exposing them to different food and environments.
What we have found invaluable here is getting a hirecar with a driver. Cost about $85 for a 12 hour shift plus petrol and meal money of $7.50 a day. All up about $100 a day. No getting lost. No worrying about driving on the other side of the road... hubby can indulge in a few beers... :)
Today we took a drive down to see the smallest volcano in the world - the Taal Volcano near Tagaytay. Pretty breathtaking. It last erupted in 1965 and before that in 1911, guessing it's due again shortly??
We also have had some amazing food here. It's impossible to be on a diet here. I never finish a meal!
My drink (the yellow one) is a virgin pina colada - using the local pineapple, banana - so refreshing - the kids are drinking watermelon ice shakes - all cost $2.50 each at an upmarket restaurant!
We were hoping to get suckling pig but they had run out - so we got this pork knuckle - it's deep fried!! But it's a amazingly good - two pieces were enough for me!
All the way down and back we passed numerous pineapple and banana plantations. There are stalls scattered all along the road on the way in and out of Tagaytay... this is the one we bought our stash from:
The thing I love most about the Philippines is the people. The people rock!

Our loot, we bought watermelon, bananas, pineapples and candied peanut disks (sooo good!) - bargain - gave more than half of it to our driver - he has four kids!

Your kids are fortunate to be exposed to this experience at a young age and learn about other cultures and food....and the food does look delicious!
