Funny and thought provoking

Found this on the interwebs this morning and it got me thinking...  how do you balance national economy with frugality and keeping the kids happy?

I think I've spent about $100 on each child this year including stockings which I think is pretty good - I took advantage of toy sales and layby and chose pretty carefully.   How about you?  Has Christmas had some budget blowouts?  Have you handmade anything?

Seriously I can't be the only one?

Who thinks Valentines' day is a crock?

Don't get me wrong, I love my hubby dearly, and he would probably do valentines if it was important to me, but I just do.not.get.it.

When I was single I remember having an anti-valentines' day party - for all those who either didn't get it either.  There were a lot of people there (including my hubby!)

Whilst we were engaged, hubby bought me a card as a stir, it was more of a joke than anything else, then came the piss-take of finding the soppiest most revolting e-cards to send me too.  My hubby has a great sense of humour!

So those of you who observe, is it a validation thing?  Is it just a good excuse for some loving?
Those of you that don't - why not?  Here's some anti valentines day cards for you to circulate

FlashbackFriday: Womens' weekly cookbook 1971

My Nan gave me these a couple of weeks ago as she was doing a clean out!  These were printed when my Mum was 3 months pregnant with me!  I will actually use some of the recipes I reckon, some of them... well...

It's about 20 pages, and it's stapled together, they are now much treasured by me!

Eat more milk - eat Junket!! Do they still make Junket?

Bet you can't wait until I dazzle you with my new repertoire of garnishes right?

FrillyFrivolousFriday: Coolest Maths teacher ever!

I'm going to apologise in advance here...

I sent an Aussie care package of sweets to the US last week and was very happy to hear they had arrived this morning.  She announced that she loved the Tim Tams so I suggested she do the 'Tim Tam Melt' or 'Tim Tam Slam' to get some extra enjoyment from them.

'What is that?' she asked, 'You better tell me before I eat them all!'. hehe.

So I sent her this YouTube Video link - bet you're all craving Tim Tams now right?

FrillyFrugalFriday - Yo! It's super Easi!

Something I've been meaning to share for aaaaages is how our Easiyo saves us heaps of money!

We make 1 litre of yoghurt and it lasts us about 5 days (yes, that's 200ml a day!).  With us going through so much yoghurt, especially in the summer months - and it costs us $3.74 for a litre.

The quality is that of Jalna - custardy, thick and full of flavour - so based on that quality - the cost - $6.18 for a litre of Jalna.  So for us, that saves us $14.72 a month in yoghurt.  The maker is about $20.00 -$23.00 these days so you could, if you use or eat the same or more yoghurt, you could recoup your costs in just 6 weeks.  The great thing about the maker too is that it comes with the 1 litre container, but also two snack ones, for taking out or school or work lunches.  We actually have two, we had one and picked up another on sale for $10.

Our favourite mixes are:
Raspberry
Strawberry
Vanilla
Greek or Natural (I use this to make dips or cook with)

But there's many, MANY more including drinking yoghurt, low fat, organics - lots!

How do you do it?
  • Get the 1 litre container, fill half with water from the tap, empty packet mix in, fill to about an inch from the top with water.  stir with a fork to combine and screw top on tight, give it a good shake.
  • Boil the kettle and put your container in the maker (no electricity required!)
  • Pour boiling water down the sides of the container until the maker is full to the rim, put the lid on the maker and leave overnight or at least 12 hours.  It should be thickened before you put in the fridge...
  • Chill for an hour and serve.

We fed Easiyo to the girls from the time they turned one.
Now the next stage moving on from Easiyo is making your own with milk powder.. but I'll share that another day!

Oh funny but wrong...

Kathy Griffin is someone I teeter between feeling she's tedious or fabulous.

This one is pretty funny, though I'm a little mixed about how I feel about the 'real life' situation of Jon and Kate.

You will enjoy this though...

Cos baby I'm up in my BeeGees like a windy interview...

bwhahaaa..

No I have lost my mind or my command of the English language... you need to watch this to understand.  Laugh hard....!

FrillyFrivolousFriday - This is serious...

Hope you're close to or have had a few Friday night beverages - you might need it to appreciate this fully.

It is totally serious I realise but it makes me giggle.
From Nathan Foley formerly of Hi-5 - his Myspace page:

This is the 'ooh I can be grown up... like a 45 year old has-been cabaret singer' pose ....not far off the mark really.

Say I will what? Let the image of you in orange and purple happy pants leave my memory? Don't think so unfortunately.

This, I have no words, just giggles every time I see it.

I'm sure there is a fan-base out there - what... those kids that were chanting Nathans' name at the first Hi-5 concerts I think are old enough to order at the bar now right?

In all seriousness, maybe a musical would be more his style? or should be?

Friday, August 28

FrillyFrivolousFriday - T-shirts to wear to work on casual friday...

Fathers' day presents perhaps?
I can see my hubby wearing this one

Friday, August 21

FrillyFrivolousFriday - Who seriously buys this?

If you are my friend, and you buy this for your dog... um... you're dropped.
